Sponsors of Crossing the Ditch
PLATINUM SPONSORS - The big boys!

unwired_logoUnwired

Not only was Unwired the major financial sponsor behind our world first expedition, but they are a darn fine Internet Service Provider. Unwired believes that your internet connection should be as easy as 1, 2, 3. If only it was that easy to paddle to New Zealand!

Thanks for helping us to "cross the ditch".

GOLD SPONSORS

fgi_logoFGI - Fiberglass International

Put simply, if FGI hadn't sponsored our expedition, we would never have made it across the Tasman...cause we wouldn't have had a kayak!

To build a kayak capable of handling 10metre breaking waves, you need some serious composite materials and Kevin Olsen and the rest of the team at FGI had the solution. FGI are the leading supplier of composites to the Australian market. There is nothing that they don't know about composites, actually if you ask them...they reckon they know the solution to pretty much every thing, global financial crisis not withstanding - just throw some materials at it hey boys!

TECHNOLOGY PARTNER

Panasonic

Out in the middle of the Tasman you need the toughest equipment to handle the harsh conditions. The central hub of our communications and positioning was done through a Panasonic Toughbook laptop computer. Water proof, shock resistant...this thing was virtually indestructible.

EXPEDITION PARTNERS

Rush Digital

Pat and the co-ordination centre at Rush Labs (formely Race Recon) was the central hub of operations whilst we were on the water. Real time modeling, media, logistics there is nothing these guys can't handle. "Switched on" doesn't even come close to describing how these guys handle business and expedition logistics. Without Rush the expedition wouldn't have gone nearly as smoothly - thanks Pat!

Check out the projects that Pat and the rest of the team are working on at the moment:

Tracplus

Real time tracking...no, re-read that; Real-time Tracking. 1000kms from land, stuck in gargantuan storms; Rescue co-ordination centres in Australia and New Zealand as well as 1.6 million people across the world were able to login into our website and track us LIVE as we battled the ditch. Every 6 minutes, our position, speed and course were updated allowing every one to experience every little twist and turn.

A big cheers o Mike Hanning and the rest from Tracplus NZ.

Roger 'Clouds' Badham

Perhaps the only person on this illustrious list that merits a listing all on his lonesome. Simply put Roger is the best weather forecaster in Australia, if not the world. Under the grumpy, sardonic exterior beats a heart of gold and a mind that comprehends the weather in such ways that us 'mere mortals' could never dream of. Out on the Tasman we didn't get the historically 'normal' weather that the last hundred years of data dictated, but thanks to Roger we were always able to stay 2 steps ahead and be prepared for whatever the Tasman could throw at us!

Australian National Maritime Museum

A truly world class organisation that is fundamental in managing and exploring Australia's maritime heritage in ways that inspire, delight and enlighten. They have the aim to bring maritime heritage to life and preserve it for future generations. We hope to have our kayak Lot 41 in the ANMM to be shared with all soon!
