15th January 2010 - Cas' Holidays!

Paradise

cas_xmas

Six months ago I was vomiting in a tent up at 17,000 on Mount McKinley, Alaska…. It was -30degrees and I’ve gotta say… I was dreaming of a warmer place… how bout an actual holiday for a change I kept asking myself? A place with no frostbite, no altitude sickness, avalanches or rockfall – doesn’t that sound good!

Mia (my amazing girlfreind) and I headed over to SE asia for 4 weeks. First stop- climbing in Thailand- Oooo Yeah! Limestone climbing is so funky- there are just so many ways to grab hold and move the body. Our highlights have gotta’ve been deep water soloing and the huge variety of climbing there.

Sadly we had to leave Tonsai as the rest of our holiday awaited! Now… I’ve never been much of a city person- but I’ll admit, I absolutely loved Bangkok! Every aspect of it…. the filth, the grime, the smell and the haggling. Leaving the intensity of Bangkok we headed over to Laos for some village trekking and paddling before heading down to Cambodia where we did a 9 day cycle around the majestic temples of Angkor Wat. WOW. What a place.

Check out the pics at our new XMAS gallery.

The team at Unique trails who organised the tour were fantastic. Everything was meticulously organised and the itinery had been given a heap of thought. The stories our tour guide shared with us from his first hand experience under the Khmer Rouge regime were horrifying- Jonesy and I really went through nothing on the Tasman compared to these poor people. For those of you that are looking for an adventure, here’s an awesome place to start: UNIQUE TRAILS

I’m pumped to be back and so incredibly psyched to rock 2010!
