| 1 December 2009 - End of year wrap up! |
Speaking Tour is over!Justin and I had a blast sharing our story to audiences in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane. For all those that attended around the country I think you'd all agree it was an awesome event. Big thanks to the team at World Expeditions and The North Face for putting the tour together. I'd have to say, my favorite questions was from a 9 year old Melbournian whose dad had recently read him Crossing the Ditch. Inquisitively he asked "Cas, do you still call Jonesy Pieguts? ha ha!" (Personally I think you paid him off Cas - JJ!)What are J&J up to over Christmas?Justin is heading off to New Zealand next week do a 10 day technical mountaineering course. He then plans on spending a couple more weeks up in the hills gaining some valuable glacial/ snow and ice experience. Growing up in Indonesia, he hasn't had much time on the white stuff and is so excited about it!James is heading over to SE Asia to do some climbing in Thailand (limestone tufa's oh yeah!) then head over to Laos for some elephant riding and then into Cambodia to do a 10 day cycle through the majestic temples of Angkor Wat. Out of the blue phone call (excuse the pun.. bad joke!)To my utter surprise last week, I got a call from the young round the world sailor- Jessica Watson calling up for a bit of a chat. She was in great spirits and joked about the luxurious food she's been eating compared to what we had on the Tasman! She's up around the equator and hoping to be down around the cape for Christmas. She's doing a great job and we're gunning for her!Meeting the Governor GeneralWe're both honored and excited to be meeting Her Excellency on Thursday in Canberra. We'll be presenting to the Queen Scouts at the celebratory dinner which is kinda cool. This is a huge honor and we feel incredibly privileged.Where were we on the Tasman 2 years ago? This time two years ago it was day 17 on the Tasman- exactly half way across! Little did we know that the next half of the voyage would take 45 days. Bummer :) By this stage we'd fought our way out of the "hippie trail", Derek the desal was sick and we'd just seen the only yacht we were to see on the Tasman! Our top three accomplishments for 2009:- We've now shared our story to over 50,000 people around the world through our presentations What have yours been? we'd love to know!
